Merchant Sqare / Merchant City / 2pm / FREE
Massed Pianos
In the midst of the hurly-burly of the shops and restaurants of the Merchant Square, 15 pianists will sit playing 15 Yamaha keyboards. But there will be no sound. What gives? Modelled after silent discos, come down and grab a set of headphones, and listen to the latest music for this plethora of pianos. No tickets required.
After successful performances in Verona, and before moving on to Gothenburg, the multiple-piano project comes to the heart of the Merchant City as part of Piano Festival, with new works from around Europe, including Scotland’s own John de Simone and Tom David Wilson.

Piano Orchestra and Piano & Film (Part of Rayal Conservatoire Piano festival)
An orchestra of pianos, and the piano as an orchestra. With a nod to the great tradition of pianists improvising to film, students and staff will be inspired to create their own soundtrack to two films from our Digital Film and Television Department. There will also be works for multiple instruments, with as many as eight pianos filling the stage to create an orchestra of pianos.
